For his latest release “Mládí” on Deutsche Grammophon, the Japanese composer, conductor and pianist Joe Hisaishi brings together three works from the films of director Takeshi Kitano, rearranged and recorded together with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra. In Mládí (Czech: “Youth”), written for piano and strings, Hisaishi takes on the role of soloist and conducts the Vienna Symphony Orchestra from the piano. “Summer” is taken from the road movie Kikujiro (1999), “HANA-BI” is from the crime thriller of the same name (1997), and Kids Return (1996) is from Kitano’s coming-of-age story. The EP will be released digitally and on vinyl for Hisaishi's 74th birthday on December 6, 2024.
